Should I come for more treatments once I am ‘fixed’?

This is a great question and one we have been asked many times at the clinic. Let me ask you a question before answering:

Do think it’s wise to run your car without servicing it?

I think it’s safe to say most of you would say No to this. Let’s face it, if you ran your car, without servicing it, you’d expect it to break down at sometime, due to the very fact that it hasn’t been serviced. Most of us would think this madness, but most of us don’t view our most valuable asset, our body, in this way. Why? Well I suppose it’s just because we think it runs fine all the time. But we all know that this isn’t the case (well mine definitely doesn’t, that’s for sure). Most of us are not operating 100% efficiently and some will not be running well at all.

Continuing the analogy of the car – some of us are Ferraris and some are Minis, but we’re all basically cars, with the same working parts and potential to break down. It’s just that some are more highly tuned than others. Do they need servicing? Of course they do!

And so it is with our bodies, we all need to be operating as efficiently as possible, to lead a healthy and fulfilled life. Therefore does it not make sense to get a regular service /check up? Too right it does. Here’s why:

When our constitution (component parts) are running as efficiently as possible, we are expending minimal energy to carry out our daily living and therefore our bodies are “purring” like the Ferrari, rather than laboring like the junkyard wreck limping down the road, spewing smoke and leaking oil all over the place.

Finding an MOT treatment cycle that works for you should make sense. Of course everyone is different and the Ferraris amongst you will most likely require more regular treatment than the Minis and dare I say the Ford Anglias amongst you. (I am showing my age now). The point is that regular treatment should be viewed as a matter of course and be built into your lifestyle.

You probably won’t be surprised to learn that we tend to see Elite athletes on a more frequent basis than a chef or a working mum, for maintenance treatments. Their relative physical, emotional and social demands are different and so we need to cater for their differing requirements. What they do have in common though is that maintaining optimal health is essential for their own personal life demands and therefore prevention is better than cure!

Now, like cars, sometimes our bodies do break down no matter how well we’ve looked after them. But if you have looked after yourself, problems are usually easier to treat and require fewer treatments, therefore saving you money and your valuable time in the long run.

However, and whoever you choose to maintain a healthy lifestyle with, we believe that promoting appropriate maintenance treatment should be something that everybody understands.
