What should I wear to the appointment; will I need to get undressed?

I don’t know about you, but I get a bit self-conscious stripping off in front of a total stranger. But effectively that’s we are asking you to do when you come to an appointment. Whilst it’s a day-to-day occurrence for an osteopath to see people in their underwear, we appreciate this is not the norm for most people. Therefore whilst we often ask you to disrobe, we will always respect your modesty and will provide a cover/blanket and will treat fully dressed if requested. However, being able to see the body allows us to see the contours, muscle bulk and skeletal imbalances that clothes hide. Also when treating, tight clothes can restrict some of the techniques we need to use.

Practical clothing such as cycle/sports shorts and sports bras for ladies are easy for us to work with and do not inhibit our treatment techniques. We want you to feel comfortable and at ease, so if you have any questions please do discuss them with us before you come for treatment and we will be as accommodating as possible. Let’s face it we don’t want to get off on the wrong foot, do we?
